Tian Zhengzhi, also known by his pen name Mohai, hails from Luoyang, Henan Province. He currently resides in Suzhou District, Jiuquan City, Gansu Province.
In his childhood, he fell in love with calligraphy under the influence of his forebears and sought instruction from experienced calligraphers, hoping to learn how to precisely master brushwork, ink application, and calligraphy techniques from ancient models. He also drew inspiration from the ancient wisdom on calligraphy, which states, "The essence of calligraphy lies in the method, but its beauty lies in the human touch." The meaning is that the art of calligraphy is like a divine transformation, and the brush should be powerful yet flexible. It must come from one's own heart, and one must avoid following others' paths blindly. This emphasizes the principle of learning from the past without being constrained by it, advocating for flexible application rather than rigid imitation, which can lead to astray paths. Instead, one should follow their own path and create beautiful calligraphy. In later practice, he remembered this guidance, set his sights high, studied diligently, and practiced assiduously, laying a solid foundation before entering society. This laid the groundwork for his future success in calligraphy creation. In his spare time, he continued his studies and sought further improvement by participating in various levels of calligraphy associations. Through regular exhibitions and exchanges, he quickly mastered the techniques and characteristics of various styles, benefiting greatly and ultimately creating works that possess practical, aesthetic, and economic value. Through hard work, he has now become a member of the Jiuquan Calligraphy Association, a director and advisor of the Jiuquan Elderly Calligraphy and Painting Association, a member of the Gansu Calligraphy and Painting Association, a member of the China Elderly Calligraphy and Painting Association, a researcher at the Beijing Global Hanmo Culture and Art Institute, a national first-level calligraphy master, and the deputy dean of the Calligraphy Institute.
