On October 10th, the "First Provincial Calligraphy Exhibition of Guangdong Calligraphy and Literature Research Institute" and the second launch ceremony were held at the Guangdong Calligraphy Academy. This exhibition was guided by the Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Guangdong Provincial Literature and Art Publishing House, and was hosted by the Guangdong Calligraphy and Literature Research Institute. It was jointly organized by the calligraphy (painting) academies of 21 prefecture-level cities across the province. It was the first event in the history of Lingnan calligraphy to be held in the form of a provincial calligraphy academy collaboration.
This exhibition, after undergoing rigorous selection, showcases nearly 200 exquisite masterpieces. Apart from works from calligraphy academies across the province, it also incorporates outstanding calligraphy works from various city art academies and calligraphy associations. The exhibition features innovative expressions of the solemn and dignified style of Qin seal script and Han official script in contemporary times, as well as the collision of the free-spirited style of bamboo and wooden slips with modern aesthetics. Furthermore, it intertwines the ancient charm of Wei steles and Tang regular script with the elegant charm of Song and Ming letters, vividly interpreting the creative pursuit of Lingnan calligraphers to "follow the rules of the ancients while creating their own style".
This exhibition marks an important milestone in the development of Guangdong's calligraphy industry. The organizers stated that, starting from this major exhibition, they will continue to deepen cooperation with calligraphy academies across various cities. Through a normalized linkage mechanism, they aim to gradually build a calligraphy exchange platform covering the entire province, promoting "resource sharing, academic progress, and talent cultivation". This will help Guangdong make a leap from being a "calligraphy major province" to a "calligraphy strong province", allowing Lingnan calligraphy to radiate stronger vitality in the new era.
