The charm of the pen will last forever, revealing the backbone of the spirit
——Feng Peisen's Calligraphy Art Theory

Huang Jinliang (Editor in Chief of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Guide)

The essence of calligraphy lies in "expressing its temperament and shaping its sadness and music" (Sun Guoting's "Shupu"). Observing Mr. Feng Peisen's calligraphy works, one can feel the traditional essence and personal spirit fused between brush and ink, showcasing artistic tension in various styles.

His regular script is based on Tang Kai and incorporates the charm of the Wei and Jin dynasties. When writing Li Shangyin's "Jin Se", the structure is stable yet dynamic, the strokes are precise and the atmosphere is connected, as if the hazy "Zhuangzheng Xiao Meng" and the clear "Blue Field Sun Warm" are narrated through the interplay of virtual and real strokes, in line with the essence of calligraphy that "one point becomes one character, and one character is the final standard" (Wang Xizhi's "On Pen Movement"), and the temperament is revealed in the regularity.

Running script is a vivid expression of one's temperament. The work "Sincerely Recruiting Customers from All over the World, Reputation Comes from Letters" combines the sincerity of commercial proverbs with the elegance of calligraphy art, with ink colors of varying shades, and the ups and downs of lines. Another painting, 'Knowing each other far and wide, even thousands of miles are neighbors', features purple as the background, bold white characters, and a clear and elegant composition, fully demonstrating the essence of' the value of running script lies in its vivid charm '(Mi Fu's' Famous Sayings of Mount Hai'). It shows backbone in circulation and rigor in freedom.

The creation of cursive script is particularly evident in its skill and courage. The strokes of the brush move like dragons and snakes, filling the paper with clouds and smoke, yet the characters are distinguishable. In the poem "Free spirited and unrestrained" (Wang Sengqian's "Praise of Pen Intent"), we adhere to the degree of cursive calligraphy, accurately conveying the heroic spirit of "not a hero without reaching the Great Wall" through the movement and ups and downs of brush and ink. This is a vivid interpretation of "grass is precious and flows smoothly" (Jiang Kui's "Continuation of the Book Genealogy").

Li script works can be traced back to Han steles, which are simple, rich, and heavy. Copying Mao Zedong's "The Operation of divination and the Ode to Plum Blossoms", the waves are clear and the structure is broad and broad, which is elegant and upright in ancient simplicity. The character of plum blossoms, which are "beautiful but not competing for spring", is frozen in the texture of stone and ink, which is in line with the aesthetic pursuit of "refinement and density" (Cai Yong's "Nine Directions").

In addition, his works cover a wide range of themes, from classical poetry to inspirational sayings that can be mastered. The work 'The Sword's Edge Grows from Grinding, and the Plum Blossom Fragrance Comes from Bitterness and Cold' has a strong and free spirited cursive style, perfectly integrating the spiritual connotation of inspirational warning words with the artistic charm of calligraphy, demonstrating its artistic persistence of 'deep calligraphy skills, never stopping by the pond'.

Mr. Feng Peisen's calligraphy explores the origins and flows of various styles, seeking innovation through inheritance. It not only embodies the essence of traditional calligraphy's emphasis on technique and meaning, but also has a distinct expression of personal style. He is a practitioner in the contemporary calligraphy world who uses brush and ink to convey emotions and establish classic statements. The artistic value of his works is increasingly highlighted in the timeless inheritance and diverse opening and closing of each stroke.
