许家钰Xu Jiayu

Xu Jiayu, male, born in 1939, originally from Weiyuan, Sichuan, started working in primary education in 1963. Due to outstanding academic performance, he was awarded the title of Senior Teacher and worked for 33 years until his retirement in 1996. He currently resides in Zigong City. I entered the calligraphy class of the Municipal University for the Elderly in 2002 and obtained the 7th level of the Sichuan Province Calligraphy Professional Examination in 2006. I am currently the director (former) calligraphy team leader of the Zigong Elderly Calligraphy and Painting Research Association. Zigong Calligrapher's Association, Sichuan Senior Calligrapher and Painter Research Member, Chinese Senior Calligrapher and Painter Research Member, National First Class Calligrapher and Painter, Chinese National Ritual Artist, People's Artist, and some of their works were collected and published by Guangming Daily on the press on June 6, 2023 with comments, and collected and published by CCTV on the official news network website to promote national culture globally. Some of the works are collected and made into porcelain paintings by Jinggangshan Scenic Area for tourists to enjoy. Xu Jiayu's calligraphy is an artistic practice that takes brush and ink as the bone and emotions as the soul. He has been deeply rooted in regular script and has played his own artistic voice in the symphony of traditional laws and the spirit of the times.

 

His calligraphy follows the strict rules of Tang Dynasty regular script, while also incorporating the lively charm of Song people's interests, just as Sun Guoting's "Shupu" said, "In ancient times, there were different problems, but now there are different problems. Looking at his works, the strokes are like "cone painting sand" and "house leak marks", with a clear range of ups and downs and distinct lifting and pressing. The couplet "The country is upright, the heart is smooth, and the officials are peaceful and the people are at ease" has a stable and square structure, and the strokes are vigorous and full, blending the magnificence of Yan Kai with the precision of Ou Kai. It not only shows the strength of muscles and bones, but also embodies the dignity of the temple, fully demonstrating the inherent characteristics of Kai script's "setting up images to express meaning".

 

Xu Jiayu's creation is not a simple imitation of ancient calligraphy, but a cultural practice of conveying messages through books. He focused on the feelings of his family and country. From commemorating the victory of the Anti Japanese War and the centennial birthday of the CPC, to paying tribute to the people's army and remembering the great men, each of his works is a vivid footnote of "literature carries morality". Like a long scroll of regular script commemorating the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, with dignified and solemn characters, and a pen power that penetrates the back of the paper, condensing the passionate and sorrowful songs of that bloody era on the pen; The couplet 'Abundant Achievements Descend to the Universe, Renowned Across the World' commemorates the achievements of great figures with a strong literary style, and the ink flows with reverence for history and reverence for spirit. This creative concept that links calligraphy skills with the mission of the times is in line with Cai Yong's creative philosophy of "the calligrapher is scattered, and if you want to write, first scatter your embrace". Through the expression of emotions and the transmission of values, calligraphy transcends the scope of skills and becomes a carrier of spirit.

 

In the construction of artistic style, he seeks variation in the strictness of regular script and reveals temperament in regularity. Works with different themes, whether solemn and heavy, or elegant and graceful, such as the couplets commemorating the 90th anniversary of the founding of the army, are vigorous in writing and broad in atmosphere due to the heroic theme; And 'Being an official with integrity, living with a clean breeze in both sleeves' reveals elegance in dignity, conveying the virtue of being an official through the elegance of brushwork. This creative wisdom of "establishing form according to meaning and expressing meaning through form" not only adheres to the aesthetic bottom line of regular script's "plain and clear" approach, but also endows it with the vitality of "shaping with things".
