张美玉Zhang Meiyu

Zhang Meiyu, born in December 1943 in Huitong, Hunan, Han ethnicity, member of the Communist Party of China, contemporary calligrapher and painter, works at the School of Fine Arts, Hunan Normal University. I have graduated from the National Advanced Course in Art Theory Research and Calligraphy and Painting Creation at the Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University. Studied under famous flower and bird painters such as Mo Gaoxiang, Li Zhixiang, Liu Cunhui, Wang Qiyin, and Qin Shaofu. I am good at freehand Chinese flowers and birds, especially peonies. He has published several personal art albums, including "Winning Calligraphers and Painters at the China Chongyang Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition" and "Contemporary Calligraphers and Painters". Multiple works have been published in newspapers and magazines such as "Art Daily", "Essence of Calligraphy and Painting", and "Calligraphy Daily", and have been included in albums such as "Chinese Calligraphers and Painters Encyclopedia", "Chinese Calligraphy and Painting Collection Guide", and "English Chinese Bilingual Large scale Calligraphy and Painting Dictionary". They will be settled in the Contemporary Famous Digital Art Museum in 2023. The traditional Chinese painting series of flower and bird paintings in 2025 will be reviewed and registered by the China Copyright Protection Center. The work has been widely collected by institutions and friends at home and abroad. The works "Bamboo Rhyme" are collected by Hunan National Painting Museum, "National Color Morning Rhyme" calligraphy guide newspaper, and "Plain Flowers and Ink Leaves Can Be Human" and "A Red Fragrant Dew" are permanently collected by Shenzhou Art Magazine. The work has been exhibited and won awards both domestically and internationally. On July 17, 2019, the 6th China Russia Volga River Youth Forum China Day, a Russian delegation came to Hunan, China, and I was invited to attend the reception. At the Hunan Normal University Music Hall, Chinese culture showcased "Danqing Danmo". I performed painting peonies on site and received high praise from friends. I presented 72 pairs of peony painting sketches (one for each person) and asked the deputy of the delegation leader, President Putin, to present him with a "prosperous and auspicious" peony painting. I wish President Putin happiness and health, wish Russia a prosperous and strong country, and wish the friendship between China and Russia to last forever.

 

In 2022, participated in the "Summit Forum on the Integration of Art and Times Technology Application" at the Beijing Calligraphy and Painting Elite Works Exhibition of the Chinese Culture and Art Talent Pool.

In December 2024, Hunan Normal University Academy of Fine Arts held a lecture on "Art and Happy Life" for senior professors and invited college students. Starting from their own growth process, they shared their rich life experiences and artistic pursuits, inspiring students to love art more, add color to their lives, and shine for the construction of the motherland.

From 2016 to 2018, I was appointed as a teacher of flower and bird painting at Hunan Normal University for the Elderly and Kaifu District University for the Elderly in Changsha. I had a dedicated peony class where I taught freehand painting of peonies, created my own teaching materials, actively and enthusiastically taught, and contributed to elderly education. My classes received high praise.

Multiple works participated in the "Star of China and Charity Walk Together" donation exhibition in Beijing, and the fragrance of books and paintings entered the community. Hanmo Danqing Environmental Protection and "Yi+Art=Love" art auction donation activities showed love.

Teacher Zhang Meiyu has a strong spirit of perseverance and is not satisfied with her past achievements. In terms of subject matter, she has achieved remarkable success in freehand painting peonies. But she is not satisfied, she wants to broaden her painting subject matter. Therefore, she often goes to various places to sketch different flowers such as lotus, wisteria, roses, and Bougainvillea. She also goes to Xishuangbanna to sketch tropical plants to enrich her creative themes and content. In addition, there are constantly changing forms and techniques. She not only used the technique of freehand brushwork to paint peonies, but also used the technique of small freehand brushwork or part-time writing to paint other flowers. She also tried to paint some almost abstract works with splashing colors and ink, constantly enriching her technical forms and expressive language. From her paintings, it is clear that she writes freely and effortlessly, completely at will. The use of ink and color is also carefree yet not lacking in propriety, with appropriate benefits. Especially her peony paintings are excellent, almost effortless, with both form and spirit. Rich and elegant at the same time. It seems to be her elegant dance moves on stage, following the rhythm of the music with every movement and gesture. Teacher Zhang is going to release her second album again, and she asked me to write a preface for her art collection. I am inspired by Teacher Zhang's courage, perseverance, and fruitful achievements in art.
